Road deaths down last year

Thanks to government measures aimed at cracking down on road offences, the number of fatal accidents on Slovak roads were down most of 30 European countries in 2009, states a report released by the European Transport Safety Council.
Slovakia registered a 36-percent drop in the number of deaths from 606 in 2008 to 385 in 2009. The average drop in the 30 countries included in the report was 11 percent. There were 71 road deaths per million people in Slovakia last year, which is roughly on the level of the European average (70 per million).
