Ruling coalition party SaS has been accepted into the European Liberal Democrat and Reform party (ELDR). The decision was taken at the ELDR congress in Helsinki after just one year of co-operation with the SaS.

The ELDR stated that it appreciates the good result that the SaS got in the national elections in June and also the party’s programme goals. Several parties from Slovakia have tried to join the ELDR in the past, but failed.

The ELDR party includes the likes of the FDP (Germany), the British Liberal Party, Fianna Fail (Ireland), the Venstre (Denmark), the Estonian Reform Party, Suomen Keskusta (Finland), the VLD (Belgium), and many more. The ELDR affiliates 56 political parties from throughout Europe, and boasts 75 Euro MPs and 8 European Commission members.
