The protests are a continuation of ongoing demonstrations against how the government wants to revise the Labour Code, but now the unions are threatening to intensify their activities and even target the upcoming World Championships, which could bring transport in the cities to a collapse at a time of greatest needed. This possibility was admitted by head of the Confederation of Trade Unions (KOZ) at a press briefing today, relaying the agreement made by the trade unions yesterday.

The trade unions have been holding protests this week in Bratislava, with another march taking place today from the Ministry of Labour to the Government Office, and they have a full series of other marches and protests organised for the coming months. The unions have amassed over 350,000 signatures calling for protection of workers rights more and so they could even call a referendum.
